Atletico Madrid star Hector Herrera joins MLS's Houston Dynamo at the end of the season

With two days to go before the match against Cádiz this Friday at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone is already finalizing his eleven.

In midfield, with Héctor Herrera starting for the fifth consecutive match, with Rodrigo de Paul for the second consecutive match in the eleven and still without Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is recovering from a muscle injury, the novelty will be Koke Resurrección.

The Spaniard will go straight into the starting lineup after he had the first training session completed with the group since the muscle ailment suffered two and a half weeks ago at El Sadar and that has left him out of the last three matches, against Manchester United, Celta and Betis. He will return against Cádiz.

The Mexican midfielder has played 90' minutes in the last four Atlético de Madrid matches. With HH in the midfield, Diego Simeone's team has won three and drawn one. The performances of the former Pachuca and Porto player have been outstanding and have helped the team to improve their game.

Fixtures and results of the last four games played by HH

February 19, Osasuna 0-3 Atlético de Madrid

February 23, Atlético de Madrid 1-1 Manchester United

February 26, Atlético de Madrid 2-0 Celta de Vigo

March 6, Real Betis 1-3 Atlético de Madrid

Diego Simeone will look to continue the Colchonero team's positive streak by continuing to use the Mexican as a midfielder.

On the other hand, Héctor Herrera will be looking to continue getting playing minutes in order to be in shape for the World Cup qualifiers as well as to arrive at his next team, Houston Dynamo, with the best possible rhythm.

Herrera to arrive in Houston in the summer

Herrera returns to North America as one of the most decorated Mexican players ever to play professionally in Europe.

Houston Dynamo FC confirmed the signing of Mexico national team captain Héctor Herrera on a pre-contract through the 2024 season with an option for 2025, the MLS club announced today. Herrera will join the Dynamo this summer as a Designated Player.

He won domestic titles in Spain and Portugal and his 55 Champions League appearances are the most for any Mexican player in history. Herrera was a key contributor to Atletico Madrid's LaLiga championship in the 2020-21 season. The midfielder also won three domestic trophies with FC Porto, starting with the 2017-18 league title and the 2013 and 2018 Portuguese Super Cup.
