Gerardo “Tata” Martino still doesn’t know if he will be coaching Mexico National Team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup given the irregular results he’s achieved in the CONCACAF Qualifiers, as well as the three straight loses against USMNT.

That’s why the match of Thursday night against The Stars and Stripes will be the toughest game that El Tri has played in the Martino Era, mainly because the recent hegemony of the Americans is something that FMF is not willing to allow.

The Aztec squad has the chance of not only ensuring their spot in Qatar 2022 with a victory over USMNT in Estadio Azteca, but also to finally beat them and keeping Gerardo Martino as their coach for the remainder of the cycle.

What will happen if they lose?

But if they fail to earn the three points, FMF already took the decision of parting ways with the Argentine coach, as the fact of losing in the only of the three games that is an actual challenge for El Tri could be interpreted as a weakness that El Tri rivals in the World Cup will exploit.

The good thing for Martino is that some of the players in the current roster are backing him up and at least one of them is ready to show his loyalty by stepping down from El Tri if the Mexican Football Federation decide to sack him after the FIFA match window.

Who is the player that will follow him if he leaves El Tri?

According to reports, Uriel Antuna knows that Martino is the best option for the Aztec squad in Qatar 2022, and given that “Tata” betted on him to be the player that changed things in El Tri -although he hasn’t been able to achieve the goal-, he’d follow Martino and will leave El Tri with him.
