Javier “Chicharito” Hernández hasn’t played a single game with Mexico National Team since 2019, when El Tri won 3-0 in a friendly match against USMNT, with a goal scored by Hernández. But after that, Gerardo “Tata” Martino decided to erase him from the roster.

The reason for his permanent absence has to do with the strict discipline imposed by the Argentine coach in El Tri’s camp, as Hernández was caught sneaking women in the hotel where the players were staying, something that Martino didn’t tolerate.

But now, with the lack of strikers that are having a good streak, in FMF they realized that they can’t afford to have a player like “Chicharito” out of the roster, and according to soccer analyst and commentator Enrique Bermúdez, his return to El Tri will happen soon, even if it’s against Martino’s will.

Martino doesn’t call the shots in El Tri

It’s yet to be seen if Gerardo Martino remains as El Tri’s coach, but the truth is that he’s not the people taking decisions, as Gerardo Torrado, director of all the Mexican national teams, had a say on the roster that will face the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window.

According to sports journalist Gerardo Vásquez de León, Torrado took matters into his own hands and decided to call some of the players, as Martino’s ego blacked him from realizing the generational change in El Tri is much needed. This is the reason why Torrado is also the person behind the return of “Chicharito”.
