José Juan Macías left Chivas over the summer transfer window, thinking that Mexican soccer and Liga MX were small for him and that he was ready to play in a bigger league, which is why he decided to move to Europe and join La Liga side Getafe FC.

Xabi Alonso could give Real Madrid the replacement for Marcelo

But in the six months that he was part of the Azulones squad, he only played on seven out of the 22 possible games for a total of 197 minutes. A few days before the winter transfer window, they decided to rescind his contract and Macías had to return to Chivas, as that was the only way he’d play for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

It took him three games to finally have minutes with Chivas, as he had 26 minutes on the pitch in the match where Chivas lost 2-1 against Club León, although his apparition could mean that Marcelo Michel Leaño is considering him for the upcoming matches.

It’s true that Chivas lacks a striker that can finish the plays, which is why José Juan Macías could easily regain his place in the starting XI of Michel Leaño, but after his first apparition with Chivas in over 8 months, Macías is already thinking of playing in Mexico National Team.

Will Gerardo Martino call him?

When asked about his future, José Juan Macías said that he wishes to be part of the squad that plays in Qatar, and that he’s talked with Gerardo “Tata” Martino about the possibility, given that he has a good relationship with El Tri coach.

But before he can think of being part of El Tri, he first must gain regularity with Chivas and show why he was considered to be one of the most promising strikers Mexico National Team have, although with the current performances of Chivas, that can be an easier task than what it sounds like.

Can he be part of the squad that goes to Qatar?

Gerardo Martino knows that he needs a striker that can complement Raúl Jiménez, as neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín have proven to be that striker. If José Juan Macías improves his performances, he could be on the mix to join El Tri, alongside Santiago Giménez and even Julio Furch.
