Although Gerardo “Tata” Martino will be Mexico National Team coach for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers match window, there’s still people criticizing his decisions in El Tri, given that they barely managed to win against Jamaica and Panamá, and couldn’t score against Costa Rica.

Martino will have to beat US Soccer MNT, Honduras, and El Salvador to save his job as El Tri coach, but he’d also have to convince Mexican Football Federation with the way the Aztec squad performs, as they have relied on individualities rather than having an actual plan.

That’s why FMF is still looking for potential replacements if Martino doesn’t win and convince in the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, and one of the coaches that has gathered the most attention on recent weeks is Nicolás Larcamón.

Will Nicolás Larcamón arrive in Mexico National Team?

Although he’s said that it’s a dream to coach a National Team like El Tri, he’s now focused with Club Puebla, team that he currently has as Liga MX leaders in Clausura 2022, a spot they’ve been in for the past four weeks.

Larcamón knows of the interest that not only El Tri has in him, but also teams like Club América, Chivas or Monterrey, but he is not interested in leaving La Franja, as he will fulfill his contract with Club Puebla first, which ends after Apertura 2022.

Nicolás Larcamón numbers with Club Puebla

Since his arrival for Clausura 2021, Nicolás Larcamón has proven why he was the perfect fit for a club like La Franja, as he needed an opportunity with a team that could become the underdog in a league usually dominated by the teams with most money.

In the three tournaments he’s been in Club Puebla’s dugout, La Franja has reached the semifinals for the first time in over a decade. Then, the following season, they beat Chivas to play Liguilla again, although they were eliminated in quarterfinals.

For Clausura 2022, he has established a solid project that have La Franja as leaders for four straight weeks and that is still unbeaten.

Club Puebla owner has recently said that if Puebla ends up being Liga MX champion, his renovation will be automatic, although the extension of his contract is a priority, and they’re willing to invest more money to build a better squad for him, now that he’s proven what he’s capable of.
