Mexico National Team face their first game of the summer on Saturday night, with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria thanks to the goals of Santiago Giménez and William Troost-Ekong, who scored an own goal that gave El Tri the advantage.
Tata Martino erases all traces of America in Mexican National Team
For the Super Eagles, it was Cyriel Dessers who opened the score sheet with a header, although Rodolfo Cota gifted away the goal, as instead of clearing it to a side of the goal, he tried to grab the ball and end up falling inside it.
But one of the things that was evident was that El Tri needs to find a striker that can create danger constantly, something that Henry Martín couldn’t do on the time he had on the pitch, as he never had a clear shot, which opens the door about the possible return of Javier “Chicharito” Hernández.
Since Javier Hernández confirmed that there’s been conversations with Gerardo “Tata” Martino to return to El Tri a few days ago, soccer analysts and Mexican followers have been demanding that “Chicharito” is called up again to El Tri.
But for ESPN’s sports analyst David Faitelson, aside from Raúl Jiménez, who won’t lose the starting role in El Tri unless he gets injured, the striker that Gerardo Martino must call isn’t Javier Hernández, as he has few chances of being accepted by the group, but instead Santiago Giménez.
According to Faitelson, Giménez is an underrated player that a lot of people overlook, but the things that the 21-year-old brings to El Tri, no other striker can do, starting by scoring, as he’s scored two goals in the three caps he’s had so far.
Thanks to the mistake of Rodolfo Cota these goalkeepers ensured their presence in Qatar
