Mexico National Team will face the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window looking to secure they place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, something they haven’t been able to do just yet given the back-to-back defeats they had against USMNT and Canada MNT.

Reports suggest that Gerardo “Tata” Martino already have a preliminary list of 50 players from which he will select the 30 that are going to be playing against USMNT on March 24, Honduras on March 27, and El Salvador on March 30.

One of the biggest doubts that the Argentine coach will have is who to call on the offense, as neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín have proven to be the striker that El Tri needs for a game as complicated as the one against the Bars and Stripes.

Javier “Chicharito” Hernández seems the most logical option, given that he recovered his shape after a complicated 2020, and he currently is the Mexican striker with the best scoring streak after scoring 17 goals last season with LA Galaxy and one in the current season.

Will Martino call “Chicharito”?

Even if “Chicharito” is currently on a scoring streak, Gerardo Martino hasn’t called him since the friendly match against USMNT in 2019, where he scored a goal in the 3-0 victory for El Tri, although he was later involved in a scandal where he was caught sneaking women into the hotel the Aztec squad was staying.

That’s what make Martino decided to veto the 33-year-old forward, as he values the discipline of his players above all other things. For now, reports suggest that Martino will call “Chicharito” again if he publicly apologizes for his scandal. Instead, Martino is considering giving José Juan Macías the chance of playing for El Tri again.

Why Macías can be part of El Tri?

The 21-year-old Chivas striker is finally regaining his shape after leaving El Rebaño and Liga MX over the summer to join Getafe FC, where he played just 300 minutes in over six months, as he was erased since his arrival to Spain.

After six months relegated to the bench and getting his contract rescinded by Getafe, Macías returned to Chivas, where he’s earning Marcelo Michel Leaño’s trust and already had his first apparition in a starting XI, as well as scoring his first goal in over a year.
