The Mexican national team have just over six months to get ready for their debut in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as they will face Poland on November 20 in what will be the most important game for El Tri since Gerardo “Tata” Martino became their coach.

Although the Aztec team hasn’t agreed to play a friendly game against a European team with similar characteristics to the Polish squad, they will face five games over the summer, starting on May 28, when they play against Nigeria.

They will also face Uruguay and Ecuador as part of their preparation for Qatar 2022, as well as two games from the CONCACAF Nations League, against Surinam and Jamaica, which is why El Tri already revealed the 36-man roster that will be part of those encounters.

Although Martino called 11 U-23 players, including Marcelo Flores, something that speaks about his commitment with having a generational change in El Tri, one of the things that stands out the most is one of the players that were erased from the roster.

Alan Mozo, the biggest absence in El Tri

One of the players that Martino hasn’t considered is Pumas’s right-back Alan Mozo, even if the 25-year-old defender is one of the best players in Liga MX and one of the top assistants in the past year, the Argentine coach hasn’t given him the chance of proving his talent with El Tri.

Mozo was going to be called up for the friendly game against Guatemala, but Pumas played the final of the CONCACAF Champions League that same day and given that he’s one of the most important players in Los Universitarios roster, he couldn’t wear El Tri colors.

Although his call up for El Tri’s first friendly game of the year opened the possibility of having him on the mix for the final roster that will play in Qatar, his absence from the preliminary list shuts down any hopes of seeing him with El Tri in the World Cup.

Why doesn’t Martino want him in El Tri?

According to reports from sports news outlet Sancadilla, Gerardo Martino blacklisted the 25-year-old right-back after reports informed that he had been involved in a fight with Jaime Lozano, when he was still coaching the U-23 squad.
