Even if Mexico National Team already started preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a friendly game against Guatemala at the end of April and the upcoming games against Nigeria, Uruguay and Ecuador, there’s yet a lot of things to improve.

They were rivals in Portugal and now that Raúl Jiménez would leave Wolves, they could be teammates

Gerardo “Tata” Martino knows that the level that the Aztec squad showed during the CONCACAF Qualifiers is not enough to have a worthy participation in Qatar 2022, especially since they took a step backwards from what they showed during the first two years of Martino’s stint.

Although the Argentine coach finally found the perfect players for the defensive side of the team, he still needs to find a striker that can score consistently, as neither Raúl Jiménez, Rogelio Funes Mori, nor Henry Martín were able to find the net with regularity.

Martino has said in recent interviews and press conferences that the games that El Tri play over the summer -four friendly games and two from the CONCACAF Nations League-, will have a strong presence of young players, as he’s hoping to find the striker that El Tri needs among the next generation.

Martino hasn’t called up a Mexican playing in Italy

One of the players that could be the answer for El Tri’s needs is currently playing in Italy, where he’s impressed with his outstanding performances in Primavera 1, the League where the Italian academy teams play.

Teun Sebastián Ángel Wilke currently plays for SPAL 2013 Primavera, where he’s scored 11 goals in 29 games, including a goal against Juventus academy team in the last game of the season, although that wasn’t enough, as they lost 5-2.

But the talent that the Querétaro-born has displayed since joining the Biancazzurri has made him one of the best options to become the next striker of El Tri, as he has scored more goals in the current season than Jiménez, Funes Mori, Martín and even Santiago Giménez and Javier “Chicharito” Hernández.

Wilke also has options of playing for another national team

Although the 20-year-old striker has said in the past that for now his heart is with Mexico and that he is waiting to receive his first call up, he also has the possibility of playing for the Netherlands, team that has tried to convince him to join them.
