Mexico National Team will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador on the last World Cup Qualifiers match window, as they’re trying to secure their direct ticket to Qatar 2022, something they’ll be able to do if they earn 4 points.

Although the truth is that the Mexican Football Federation wouldn’t conform if they don’t win at least two of the three games, especially the first of the three, as the Stars and Stripes have beat El Tri in the last 3 games that they’ve faced each other.

That’s why everyone was surprised when Gerardo “Tata” Martino revealed the list of players that will be part of El Tri for those games, as the call of Rodolfo Pizarro was a big surprise, given that the 28-year-old offensive midfielder hasn’t showed a reason to be considered to wear El Tri colors.

His call was possible given the absence of Andrés Guardado due to an injury, but Pizarro’s presence in El Tri closed the door to players like Marcelo Flores, who is having a breakout season with Arsenal U-23 squad, or even Orbelín Pineda, who is struggling to find his place in La Liga.

He won’t be part of El Tri

But after El Clásico Regio, where Pizarro had to leave the pitch during the second half, as a lingering mild muscular injury he’d have been dealing with for the past few weeks got aggravated, his presence in the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window was in doubt.

And after the doctors of Rayados and then El Tri’s medical staff checked him, it was revealed that he would have to step down from the Mexican roster, as they decided that he needs time to recover from his injury.

Who will replace him in El Tri?

Although the first reports indicated that maybe Orbelín Pineda or Marcelo Flores could be the players that could take his place, it was revealed that Chivas right-winger Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado was the player chosen to fill the spot he left vacant.

Alvarado joined Chivas for the current season, as he was part of a deal involving Uriel Antuna and Alejandro Mayorga, who arrived in Cruz Azul. The trade was confirmed after Pizarro refused to arrive in El Rebaño, as they were considering him the first option.
