Mexico National Team will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador in the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, on three games that will define the future of El Tri and the Stars and Stripes, given that for now are the teams that will classify to Qatar 2022.

Although the last two games of the match window seem like a mere procedure for El Tri, given that Honduras are already eliminated and El Salvador needs a miracle to earn the 4th place of CONCACAF, the game against USMNT will define who will have less pressure for the remainder of the year.

El Tri knows that a victory against USMNT is needed, not only to recover the confidence and get on a good streak prior the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but also because it will mean to end with the recent hegemony of the Stars and Stripes over the Aztec squad.

But if El Tri wants to be able to beat them, they will have to start scoring, something they haven’t done since the final of CONCACAF Nations League, as the Gerardo “Tata” Martino hasn’t found a striker that can actually score and has settled for players like Henry Martín.

Carlos Vela, one of the biggest absences in El Tri

Although Carlos Vela decided to retire from Mexico National Team and announced it several weeks ago, the truth is that, at least for now, there’s few Mexican strikers in better shape than him, which is why people can’t understand that Martino hasn’t reached to convince him to return.

While Henry Martín couldn’t score on the Club América victory over Toluca, Vela showed that not only he’s on a good streak, but also is Los Angeles FC leader on the pitch, as he was the protagonist of the comeback against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

So far, Vela has scored four goals and has assisted once in four games of the 2022 MLS Season, tied with Lucas Zelarayán and Brandon Vázquez on the first place of the scorers table, while Henry Martín has scored two goals and two assistances in the 10 games that he’s played for América in Clausura 2022.

Will Carlos Vela return to El Tri?

Carlos Vela’s announcement of his retirmenet from Mexico National Team arrived amidst a wave of rumors placing him in Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s roster once again, something that will not happen given that the Argentine coach doesn’t tolerate the way Carlos Vela manages his life, as he feels is too undisciplined.
