Mexico National Team hasn't found the striker that could complement Raúl Jiménez, as the options that Gerardo "Tata" Martino has called for recent games are often going through a rough patch or are simply out of shape.

Names like Rogelio Funes Mori or Henry Martín are usually seen in Martino's roster, especially in recent calls given that they've been his go tos, as he's not known for giving new players a chance to prove why they are called to be the future of El Tri.

But even if he considered other forwards, like Santiago Giménez, who is coming out of a 5-month drought, or Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, who is on a streak with LA Galaxy but hasn't been considered by the Argentine coach since 2019, the available strikers for Martino are a handful.

Mexico has several strikers around the world that could fill the needs that El Tri has especially for the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifiers match window and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but Martino has closed the doors to all and that has made some of them to consider playing for a different National Team, situation that's repeating for the upcoming match window with Luka Romero.

Luka Romero in the preliminary list of Argentina National Team

The 17-year-old offensive midfielder has showed from a young age what he’s capable of doing on the pitch, as he’s the youngest player debuting in both La Liga and Serie A, as he was just 15 when had his first minutes in the Spanish top flight with RCD Mallorca.

A year later he joined Italian side SS Lazio, where he already debuted both in Serie A and Coppa Italia, proving why he’s considered to be one of the top players of the future, which is why Argentina National Team wants him to be part of the preliminary list for the upcoming FIFA match window.

Can he play for Mexico?

Romero has yet to debut with the senior team of La Albiceleste, which still gives Mexico National Team the opportunity of having him in their roster. But given the lack of opportunities that young players are having with El Tri, it looks almost impossible that Romero plays for the Aztec squad.

He’s also said in the past that his wish is to play for Argentina National Team and has never showed a sign of interest towards El Tri, a decision that strengthens with his potential call to the senior squad. Romero has played for the U-15 and U-17 squads of La Albiceleste.
