Timo Werner scored two goals for Germany in the 4-0 win over North Macedonia, why does he struggle to score for Chelsea?

Chelsea striker Timo Werner was on the score sheet twice within the space of three minutes for Germany in their 4-0 demolition of North Macedonia to seal their qualification for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. His Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz also got a goal.

Timo Werner struggles to score for Chelsea but has scored five goals in his last five games for the Germany national team. At Chelsea he has had 16 goals disallowed by VAR and has also had 28 big chances missed. He has been coached by two managers Frank Lampard who brought him to the club and German coach Thomas Tuchel.

His rebirth in the Germany national team is due to new head coach Hansi Flick who has identified his problem as a positioning problem and has encouraged him to time his run as he is a very fast player. Chelsea will also benefit from it as both coaches are Germans and will communicate to help him get better.

Chelsea signed Timo Werner for £47m in 2020 but his failure in front of goal has pushed the club to sign Romelu Lukaku for £97m. The two can form a fearful strike partner for the club and help the club achieve more success. Werner won the UEFA Champions in his first season at Chelsea.
