Roger Martínez wants to leave América. The Colombian forward arrived the club on July 2018 after they paid $9 million for him to Villarreal but, just two years afterwards, he wants to leave. Martínez hasn’t been playing the last matches and head coach Miguel Herrera knows that he will be leaving.
The real reason for which Martínez wants to leave is that the club tried to make a salary cut due to the COVID-19 pandemic and he didn’t agree. After the attempt to make the money that he gains be reduced, the attacker considered that his time at the Liga MX side needs to be over.
América ended third on the tournament Guard1nes and qualify to the final series aside with León, Pumas and Cruz Azul. But Martínez didn’t play the last three games, against Atlas, Tigres UANL and FC Juárez, and was on the field for the last time against León, when he played just eight minutes on the defeat of his team.
Martínez initiated his professional career at Racing Club and also played in Deportivo Santamarina, Aldosivi, JS Suning, Villarreal and América. With a reported value of $4 million his move could be done soon, even though Inter Miami MLS side tried to sign him recently and he refused that option.
