The Spanish champions are clear admirers of the Premier League star and want to see him play at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Sterling is in the final 12 months of his $400,000-plus-a-week contract with the British club, and for now, there is no sign of possible renewal.

The 27-year-old England international has also declared his desire to be part of the Madrid team, which is now desperately seeking to strengthen the squad for next season after failing to secure the services of Norwegian Erling Haaland, who signed for Manchester City, and Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who renewed his contract with PSG.

The snubs of Haaland and Mbappé have Real Madrid president Florentino Perez furious, who is now turning his gaze to Sterling in the hope of closing a deal.

How much does Sterling earn at Manchester City?

The Englishman earns 12.7 million euros a year with the Sky Blues, a figure that will increase if he decides to go to Real Madrid, given that Florentino is willing to offer him 62 million euros spread over a 4-year contract, so his salary would be 15.5 million euros a year, having an increase of three million, comparing it with the salary he receives at Manchester City.

Sterling's desire to join Madrid

In 2020, Sterling gave an interview to a Spanish media outlet, in which he admitted that he was very fond of the Merengue club, and even posed with one of their famous jerseys slung over his shoulder.

Sterling has struggled to hold down a consistent starting spot on Guardiola's side this season and knows that time is ticking when it comes to fulfilling one of his remaining ambitions when it comes to playing abroad.

The player also knows he needs to play regularly to increase his chances of being in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the start of the World Cup in Qatar in November.
