Manchester City got their revenge for their Champions League loss to Chelsea by beating the Blues 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to end their unbeaten run to the season and it was Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus who scored the only goal of the game.

How did it happen at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel named a very strong squad with two strikers, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku up front, he also named three midfielders Mateo Kovacic, N'golo Kanté and Jorginho to have a well packed midfield but his team were second best all through the match. Manchester City were too hot to handle and had most of the ball possession as well as the most chances, all the Blues did were to defend and did less attacking in the match. Chelsea lost young defender Reece James to injury in the first half and replaced him with Brazilian veteran defender Thiago Silva who started the match on the bench. The first half ended goalless and it only took eight second half minutes for Gabriel Jesus to score. Chelsea scored through Romelu Lukaku but Kai Havertz was offside in the build-up.

Pep Guardiola avoided an unwanted record

Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea in January and before today's match had beaten Pep Guardiola in the three times they have played against each other in three different competitions. 1-0 in the FA Cup semi final, 2-1 in the Premier League at Etihad and 1-0 in the Champions League final. Pep has never lost four straight games to any manager in his career and was one of the motivation to do everything possible to stop Chelsea from getting anything in today's match.

What did Guardiola say after the match?

Pep Guardiola after the match praised his Manchester City players for the spirit they showed to beat Chelsea and called the performance their best of the season so far. I would say this is our best performance this season. In the last months we have played many good games, otherwise you cannot win the Premier League and be runners-up in the Champions League. It’s incredible what these players have done. People say the Champions League was a disaster. We played 13 games, won 11, drew one and lost one. When this happens it is exceptional, that helps us and now we go to Paris to play. I have the feeling the players are there and want to do another good season for our people.”

What did Tuchel say after the match?

Thomas Tuchel said Chelsea were not at their best and Manchester City deserved to win. "We lost the game and City deserved to win. We were never on our highest level. You cannot expect to get a result. It could turn around maybe with one header but we have to accept it was not our best game. We did not have ball possession to hurt them, to grow in confidence. It never happened in the first half or the second half. Until the goal, we defended the box very well but the performance was not complex enough. We were not on our very best level and you need the best level to push the game against this side."
