It will be a battle of two big clubs when Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on early kick-off on Saturday in the opening game of the matchday six of the 2021/22 Premier League season. The last time the two teams met was the 2021 UEFA Champions League final which Chelsea won through Kai Havertz's first half goal, so Manchester City will have revenge at the back of their mind while Chelsea will hope to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Chelsea in the Premier League so far this season

Chelsea are top of the Premier League table after five games and are yet to suffer a loss this season. They have won four of their matches against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham without conceding while drawing 1-1 with Liverpool, a match they played the second half with 10 players after Reece James' red card.

Manchester City in the Premier League so far this season

Manchester City opened their season with a 1-0 loss to Tottenham and bounced back with two 5-0 victories over Arsenal and Norwich City. They also won their fourth match of the season 1-0 away to Leicester City, the same team that beat them 1-0 to win the season opening match, the Community Shield. Their last match was a disappointing and boring draw against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium, much likely influenced by Guardiola's war of words with the fans over having more fans in the stadium.

Chelsea team news and manager's comment

Chelsea will be without two players, English youngster Mason Mount and USMNT player Christian Pulisic, both of whom are carrying injuries while Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has recovered from the injury that kept him out for the last two games and will take his place back from Kepa Arrizabalaga.

"It’s not between me and him, it’s not a tennis match or a chess match, it’s between our teams who compete against each other on a very high level. I expect nothing else than a 50/50 match tomorrow. We want to fight to have the better outcome. We have done it a few times. At this level we have the belief we can do it. We know what it takes to have the possibility to win. I have the feeling it does not take a miracle to win against Manchester City, but it’s absolutely necessary we bring the best performance."

Manchester City team news and manager's comment

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has never beaten Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss, losing all three games he played against him last season and he'd hope to beat him this time around. He may be without Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Rodrigo, Oleksandar Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan.

"We prepare the game like we prepare Southampton and like before in the previous games. Try to read what they are and what we have done in recent games against Chelsea under Tuchel. Every game is a new challenge, a new opportunity to learn, improve and do better. It’s not a final like in the FA Cup and the Premier League was already done. Of course, the Champions League is massive. We try to learn. This is a new competition. It’s one more game. We prepare the game like the strong points we have and see what we can do to be better. That’s the mindset we have.”
