Chelsea FC began the defense of their Champions League title with a 1-0 win over Russian opposition, Zenit St Petersburg, and showed why they are the winners of the competition last season.

New striker Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal of the match, a thumping header from a Cesar Azpilicueta's cross, the two combining for yet another goal after combining for one at the weekend in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

Chelsea currently sit second in their group, after Juventus beat Malmö 3-0 to sit top of the group. Romelu Lukaku scored his fourth goal in as many games for the club since rejoining from Inter Milan for £97m at the beginning of the season.

The first time Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012, they crashed out of it the following season in the group stage and with this food start and two easy teams in Malmö and Zenit St Petersburg in their group, they will surely make it to the next round.
