The match was loaded with a lot of action in the middle of the field, although there were also dangerous plays in both goals, in a hard-fought duel at the Monumental Stadium.

River Plate tried, but Boca Juniors defended very well

Los Millonarios' attacks started very early in the match when in the 4th minute and after a great collective play, Julián Álvarez stepped into the area and shot.

However, the ball went just wide of the post. But instead of discouraging River, that encouraged them to go forward, so in the 6th minute, Santiago Simón stole the ball from Frank Fabra in the midfield.

Then Esequiel Barco sent across to Julián Álvarez, who volleyed the ball past the side of the goal.

In general, Los Millonarios looked much more attacking in the first half, so at the start of the second half, Sebastián Battaglia made changes to his lineup.

The second half belonged to Boca Juniors

For the second half, Nicolás Figal and Luis Vázquez came on in place of Luis Advíncula and Darío Benedetto, who had a fever.

And the change favored Boca as in the second half the Xeneizes looked much better in attack and with a much more organized movement of the ball.

Sebastián Villa's goal

After a similar start to the first half, with River dominating, the game-changing play happened: Leandro González Pirez and Franco Armani made a mistake in the box.

Faced with this lack of concentration, Sebastián Villa took advantage, stole the ball, and scored with an empty goal, with which the Xeneize dealt a mortal blow to the Millonario at the Monumental Stadium.

Gonzalez Pires' huge mistake with Armani

In a play that seemed routine, a ball was left alive near the Millonarios area, which put Leandro Gonzalez Pires on alert, who decided to go for the ball.

Gonzalez Pires realized that behind him was Sebastián Villa, and tried to cover with his body so that the goalkeeper, Franco Armani would come out for the ball and neutralize the danger.

However, the Argentine defender forgot one small detail: to warn his goalkeeper, so Armani never reached Gonzalez Pires.

When he realized this, Sebastián Villa did not miss the opportunity and went for the ball, and although the Millonario defender tried to throw his body over the Xemeize to win the space, it was useless.

With his nose for goal, Villa got behind Pires, who fell to the turf and Villa took the ball, to first neutralize Armani and then score the winning goal for his team.

And this defeat will never be forgotten by River, given that it was on their field and with their people.
