El Rebaño hasn’t been a regular team since Michel Leaño arrived in their dugout, something that has made Chivas followers ask for his dismissal since before the season started, as they were expecting a different coach, given that he was just an interim.

But given that Michel Leaño has a good friendship with Amaury Vergara, Chivas owner, he’s remained in El Rebaño’s dugout for this season too. So far, he’s won five games of the 19 he’s coached, numbers far from what’s expected of a team like Chivas.

Although after the Clásico Tapatío things might change, especially since they weren’t able to beat Club América the past week, in a Clásico Nacional that was meant to be an easy game for El Rebaño, given the terrible streak Las Águilas currently have.

If Chivas don’t manage to win against Atlas, Amaury Vergara won’t have any other choice than look for a replacement for Michel Leaño, given that two bad results in the Clásicos will be unbearable for El Rebaño and their followers.

Who can replace Michel Leaño?

Reports from Los Angeles Times suggest that Matías Almeyda is ready to end his stint in MLS, as he hasn’t been comfortable in the past couple of seasons with his current team, San Jose Earthquakes, as the owners haven’t fulfilled his requests to have a more competitive team.

Almeyda is on his last year of contract and has decided to leave the Quakes once the season is over, as he doesn’t plan of extending his contract with the MLS team, opening the door to a potential return to El Rebaño Sagrado.

Almeyda has never hide the fact that he would love to return to Liga MX, a soccer league that marked his professional career, and the possibility of having a second stint in Mexican soccer could arrive from the same team that received him in 2015.

What is Almeyda asking to arrive in Chivas?

The Argentine coach knows that he doesn’t want to go through the same situation he’s going with San Jose Earthquakes, which is why he’s asking to have freedom to build the team as he wants. He also is asking to keep the salary he has now with the Quakes and to maintain his coaching staff.
