Thus, the Frenchman and the Brazilian, who has been fundamental in the UEFA Champions League, could miss the match against Espanyol.

Why will Benzema and Vinicius be on the Real Madrid bench?

This decision was taken by Ancelotti with a view to having these two players rested for their match next week against Manchester City, in which both clubs will play for a place in the final of the tournament.

The match against the Blues will be played next Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in front of the Merengues' fans, who are always a factor in the club's most decisive moments.

According to what Carletto stated: "I think Benzema and Vinícius can rest", said the Italian tactician. And he further said:

"I am a supporter that if a player is well and has recovered well he has to play. At this moment, the squad is healthy, there are many who are physically well, and if someone needs to rest I will give it to him, not because the match looks easy but because if he has not recovered well he is at risk of injury."

And Ancelotti's decision sounds logical given how Karim Benzema and Vinícius Júnior have been pivotal for Los Merengues in the UEFA Champions League, as both are the joint top scorers.

At the moment Benzema has 25 goals, while Brazilian Vinicius has 14 goals, making the two the most lethal duo in the competition, and the way they beat their previous opponents, PSG and Chelsea, is a testament to that.

Benzema and Vinicius will miss the match that could crown Real Madrid as La Liga champions

Carletto has thus confirmed that both Karim Benzema and Vinicius will not be present for the clash against Espanyol, a team against whom Madrid needs a draw to secure their 35th league title, and they're second in the last three seasons.

And this will not be the only change that the club will have to make against Espanyol as Ancelotti will be forced to make changes in defense because David Alaba is still injured.

On the other hand, Éder Militão and Nacho Fernández are suspended, although the coach said that Alaba could be ready to face City on Wednesday.

But with all the limitations that the Spanish team will have, everything seems to indicate that they will be the winners of La Liga.
