Bayern Munich President, Herbert Hainer has revealed his reservations about Paris Saint-Germain's adherence to the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. The Bavarian chief said that he is 'still trying to understand how the Parisians can spend so much money but still be within the regulations. This is coming off the back of a summer of huge spending from PSG.
The Ligue 1 has made signings that other clubs can only dream of this summer. After losing their Ligue 1 title to Lille and exiting the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage last season, PSG has moved to strengthen their squad. In came Achraf Hakimi and Danilo Pereira for £60m and £16m respectively. Then followed Gini Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Gigi Donnarumma, and Lionel Messi all on free transfers but hefty salaries. Coupled with high-earners like Neymar and Mbappe on the books, the Parisians wage bill is more than most clubs in Europe.
Hence, Hainer has stated that he is interested in seeing how PSG navigates the FFP regulations without breaking them. He confirmed that it's not so much about the transfer fees but the wages that players like Messi and Ramos would command. Hainer referred to players like Messi earning up to €40m a year and then Donnarumma, Hakimi and Ramos on similar salaries. The German club's boss stated that his club sticks to the FFP rules and he expects that everybody else does.
Paris Saint-German is said to still be in the running to add one or two players to their squad before the window shuts. Top on the list is French midfielders Paul Pogba and Eduardo Camavinga. Alongside other signings, the Qatari-backed club is working towards building an all-star team that can challenge for and win the UEFA Champions League title.
