Mexico’s national soccer team will visit Jamaica for the ninth round of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers next Thursday. Gerardo Martino’s squad currently is in third place of the Concacaf Octagonal standings. El Tri have 14 points after eight games played, while the Jamaican team have 7 points, with the same number of games played.

The match will be played in the city of Kingston, capital of Jamaica, at Independence Park, behind closed doors. If Jamaica loses the match, it could be catastrophic for the team led by Theodore Whitmore, because it would mean recovering in 5 remaining matches with no margin for error, something that seems impossible.

The coach of the Jamaican national team, Theodore Whitmore announced the 23 called-up players for the upcoming FIFA match against Mexico and for the following two matches. Whitmore presented some new additions to his squad as opposed to the first game of the Qualifying Round where Mexico defeated Jamaica 2-1.

Michail Antonio is one of the players who stand out in the Reggae Boyz squad due to his involvement with West Ham in the Premier League. Other players in the squad include Ethan Pinnock, Liam More, Ravel Morrison, Daniel Johnson, Kevin Stewart, and Bobby Reid.

Jamaica call-up list

Goalkeepers: Amal Knight, Dwayne Miller, and Andre Blake.

Defenders: Damion Lowe, Alvas Powell, Adrian Mariappa, Ethan Pinnock, Liam Moore, Greg Leigh, Kemar Lawrence, and Javan Brown.

Midfielders: Peter-Lee Vassell, Devon Williams, Ravel Morrison, Daniel Johnson, Kevin Stewart, Lamar Walker, and Bobby Reid.

Forwards: Michail Antonio, Junior Flemmings, Javon East, Cory Burke, and Andre Gray

Whitmore's call-up will also be for Jamaica's matches against Panama and Costa Rica on January 30 and February 2, respectively.
