The defeat against Rayo Vallecano this Wednesday was the result that filled the patience of the leaders of Barcelona. Joan Laporta had ratified Ronald Koeman as coach despite the bad start to the season, but ended up firing him, according to the statement published by the club.

The Dutch technical director joined the Catalan team in August 2020, in what was Lionel Messi's last campaign at Barça before leaving for PSG. Quickly, the relationship between DT and the fans broke down, but Laporta kept it for a new season. Both in his first campaign in charge of the club, and in the present, poor results were the common denominator in Koeman's stay at the Barcelona bench. The free fall in recent weeks quickly led to his departure.

In its first edition in La Liga, 2020-2021, it managed to keep the club on the podium, behind Atlético de Madrid, the champion, and Real Madrid. However, he was far from having a real title shot. At the start of 2021-2022 everything got worse: after 11 dates, Barça is ninth with 4 wins, three draws and three defeats.

In their first campaign, Barcelona started on the right foot, dominating their group alongside Juventus, but it all fell apart in the round of 16 when they fell to PSG 5-2 on aggregate. The current season began with two goals against Bayern Munich and Benfica, although they later recovered with a win against Dinamo Kiev.
