Robert Beric, Alan Pulido, Jose Martínez, Lewis Morgan, Pablo Piatti and the list continue. There were a lot of players competing for this recognition that Zlatan Ibrahimović and Sebastian Giovinco won once. But this year it has gone to Crew’s Lucas Zelarayán.
The Argentinian offensive midfielder came from Tigres and costed almost $9 million dollars. He only needed one season to become one of the most important players at Columbus Crew, in 16 appearances he scored six goals and make four assists, an incredible record.
Now, the rumors are coming. Real Betis and Valencia are involved in talks with the player and want to sign him for next season. If they make the right offer, Columbus Crew would lose him sooner or later. But now that he got this award, he is not going to be cheap.
The Crew is willing to get at least $12 or $13 million dollars for the player. That would be a really huge profit for a midfielder that only played one season at the club. Now Zelarayán has a Playoffs opportunity to show the world that he is worth and he can play for a big European team.
