The departure of Lionel Messi from Barcelona had an impact on football worldwide: on the one hand, because it was the end of an era; and on the other, because it showed that a club that raised 200 million euros less than the Catalan team in the 19/20 season, could afford to add Rosario to the luxurious squad it already has.

"Paris Saint Germain is a unique case in the world because its owner is neither an entrepreneur, nor an investment fund, nor the partners: the owner is a country, Qatar," journalist José Ignacio Lladós, author, told Cadena 3 of the book "The circus of the towns".

Qatar is a small country that has the highest per capita income in the world, and is the main exporter of liquefied gas and oil it has a lot of conflict with all the surrounding countries, especially with Saudi Arabia. Who then is the true owner of Paris Saint Germain? Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, that is its political and military leader.

The PSG is owned by Qatar, which bought it in 2011 through a sovereign wealth fund led by the current emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Tamim's father, then-Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, created the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) to manage the profits from the export of oil and natural gas. And a subsidiary of the QIA, Qatar Sports Investments, is the one that bought the club for something like 100 million euros, debt included.
