Last summer, Luis Suarez almost completed his signing for Juventus. But the transfer could not be made because the Uruguayan striker could not pass a citizenship test on time. When he played in Barcelona, he could live in Spain due to the Italian citizenship of his wife. In Italy, that was not possible.

So Juventus arranged a special citizenship test for him so he could claim it in few days, a process that takes months or even years for non famous and powerful people. The club did so by bribing the dean, general director and professors of University of Perugia before his Italian test. It is also said that Suarez was given the answers before taking the test.

Time ran out and not even this dodgy fraud was enough, making Suarez sign for Atletico Madrid and forgetting Juventus. But the process was highly suspicious and unfair, so an investigation took place. Perugia’s police banned the people involved at the Italian college, for eight months. A court could contact Suarez, but the cause is pointing the university.

This means Suarez might be able to take the test next year with no problems for him if he wants. In the opposing side, Juventus’ sporting director Fabio Paratici stated that the club did everything inside the margins of law and transparently and the professionals at Perugia were unfairly sanctioned.
