Flying from Munich to Qatar’s capital city Doha takes less than six hours, but it can turn into a nightmare despite you can be the current European club champion. Bayern Munich had an absolute nightmare to get to their destination on time to play against Al Ahly for the FIFA World Club Cup in Middle East. It is their second appearance in this competition.

Their first match is expected to be played on Sunday against the Egyptian club that arrived to the competition by winning the African Champions League. They had a successful debut defeating local heroes of Al Duhail SC, earning their spot in the semifinals. As for the German club, it is the only step they must take to play the Final next Thursday.

The club’s initial plan was to play against Hertha BSC on Friday evening and head straight to the airport to take the flight to Doha. An unexpected delay forced them to wait until the following morning until they could finally board. The flight was scheduled to take off at 11:15 pm on Friday.

The big snowfall demanded extra work to defrost the plane’s fuselage and wings. They were ready to take off by 11:59 pm, but they were not authorized, and nighttime takeoffs are not currently allowed in the Brandenburg airport. After departing at 6:52 am on Saturday, they had to stop in Munich to replace the cabin crew, and finally left to Doha at 9:15 am.

German soccer glory Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who now works as the Bayern Munich sporting director, has firmly criticized the airport’s authorities, stating they do not know the big harm they have caused to the squad, speaking to local newspaper Bild.
