Liverpool has been successful on the field in recent times. They won their first Premier League title in over 30 years during the 2019-20 season and they won their fifth Champions League title just a season before that. Much of that success has come from wise acquisition of players (see Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk) but also from smart player sales.

Managed by the Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool have sold many of their fringe stars to earn enough money to improve their first team consistently. In just over 5 years (2016 – 2021), the Anfield club has raised £108.5m from the sales of only fringe stars. This doesn’t include monies they have got from selling established stars like Luis Suarez (2014) and Phillipe Coutinho (2018) who they sold for huge money.

Liverpool recently loaned Harry Wilson to Fulham in a deal that obligated the Cottagers to buy next summer. We will look at other Fringe players that have been sold by the Merseyside club and for how much they were sold and to which clubs.

Brad Smith & Jordan Ibe – Bournemouth - £22m

Sergi Canos – Norwich City - £4.5m

Cameron Brannagan – Oxford United - £200,000

Lloyd Jones – Luton Town – Undisclosed

Rafael Camacho – Sporting CP - £7m

Ryan Kent – Rangers - £7.5m

Bobby Duncan – Fiorentina - £1.8m

Ki-Jana Hoever – Wolverhampton Wanderers - £13.5m

Ovie Ejaria – Reading FC - £3.5m

Danny Ward – Leicester City - £12.5m

Rhian Brewster – Sheffield United - £23.5m

The Reds are still on track to make more money this summer after they have turned profit over the sales of fringe players Marko Grujic, Taiwo Awoniyi and Harry Wilson.
