With the signatures of the mayor of the city of North Bay Village (part of Miami Dade County), Brent Latham, and the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, the conditions were given for the mother entity of our football has a multipurpose sports complex in the American town. The facilities will be ready in a maximum period of 180 days and the investment is estimated to be several million dollars.
The agreement between the parties was signed on April 15 and the objective is for the AFA to have a property similar to that of Ezeiza. Horacio Gennari, Marketing Director of North Bay Village, explained the details to Infobae: "The joint project was born because Latham spoke with me and, since I know people from the AFA, for 20 years I managed to link the parties".
“The most important thing is that delegations of the Argentine national teams will be able to have this base when they play here. In addition, any club that wants to do its preseason will have it available", he said.
The town of North Bay Village is made up of four islands that are connected by highways. The local State will cede the land (about four hectares) to the AFA for 30 years, on the condition that the property can also be used by the local population. The AFA will bear the cost, which would be in charge of private investors.
The local legislature has already approved the agreement and the works will have sports architecture specialists and the aim will be to achieve greater sustainability since Miami aims to care for the environment.
“There will be about 50 rooms, so it could fit up to two delegations together. Therefore this would allow them a competition between them, at least as a preseason. It will have a main soccer field with the measures of the Barcelona Camp Nou playing field and four or five more fields for soccer 5. In addition, gyms and other covered sectors will be built”, added Gennari.
“When the mayor met with the governor of Florida, he received full support. He wants the potential capital and centralize the sports and cultural traffic of the region”, he said. “At the end of May a delegation from the AFA will come to visit the complex and I understand that Javier Mascherano will also be there (in charge of the methodology and development department). And in June Mr. Latham will travel to Argentina for the Copa América”, he anticipated.
