Real Madrid spent many days negotiating with Manchester United about the departure of Raphaël Varane since the Frenchman was one of the great objectives of the English and there was also no possibility of convincing him to stay longer at the Santiago Bernabéu. The merengue team handled several proposals from the Red Devils and one of them was an exchange for Paul Pogba, something that Florentino Pérez did not agree to since he preferred cash.

As it transpired, this possible exchange was on the table of the Merengue president, however, Florentino Pérez decided not to accept it and wanted the English team to pay him the 50 million euros that Varane cost in cash. Manchester United's offer consisted of a clean exchange, that is, without money involved, player by player, something that the merengue dome did not like at all since they preferred the hard cash to start saving for the signing of Kylian Mbappé, the true dream of the white team.

Paul Pogba has always been a footballer closely linked to Real Madrid since Florentino Pérez had always liked both Florentino Pérez and the previous coach, Zinedine Zidane, however, when they had the real opportunity to be hired they have backed down and preferred the money. But the interesting thing about this is that the Frenchman ends his contract with Manchester United at the end of the season that is about to start and the white team may have the opportunity to sign him at zero cost as soon as their relationship at Old Trafford ends.
