While they have shown significant signs of improvement, particularly with the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January 2020, Manchester United still have issues to address.

The defense is still an object of scrutiny for the Red Devils, who still tend to look rather sloppy in that area, as shown in goals conceded to the like of Istanbul Basaksehir, RB Leipzig and Sheffield United, despite the 80 million pound signing of Harry Maguire in the summer of 2019.

Which is why the Daily Mirror has linked the club with an 70-million-euro summer move for Real Madrid stalwart Raphael Varane, who has been at the Spanish capital for ten years now.

The Spanish club look already poised to acquire the services of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a Bosman transfer, and pending a resolution for Sergio Ramos's contract situation, Varane would face heavy contention to keep his current role.

A difficult slip-up

Meanwhile, Real Madrid failed to cut the distance with city rivals Atlético Madrid, having only mustered a last-minute draw against Real Sociedad earlier today. Both Madrid teams will face each other next Sunday.
