Real Madrid will face Shakhtar Donetsk today for their Champions League opener at Santiago Bernabeu. Their captain, Sergio Ramos, will miss the game due to an injury. The Andalusian full back had to left the game against Cádiz after he felt a huge pain on his right knee. At 34-years-old, it's maybe time for Madrid to move on from him.

I know: this may have been written a thousand times. We (all of us) have told that Ramos was over again and again. And former Sevilla has come back stronger again and again. So i'm here to propose something else: Real Madrid needs a top class full back to backup Ramos and Varane.

Since Eden Hazard's arrival two seasons ago Real Madrid's appetite for superstars has decreased. Yes, they have bought unnecessary trendy players like Luka Jovic or Álvaro Odriozola. But they have been less aggressive on the markets that during the first half of the past decade.

Eder Militao isn't bad. But he's just not enough. Neither is Nacho, who should have left to Roma during the last transfer window. Right now, instead of dreaming about players far behind their level, like Paul Pogba, Real Madrid should go for a top class full back to back up Ramos and Varane, and to start figuring out their future without Ramos. Dayot Upamecano is a viable option. He's price tag is less than 70 million euros and thats something that the Casa Blanca can pay. They really need this right now.
