Italy have fallen short of glory just a few months after winning the Euro 2020 in a grand style. Could this be the end of the road for Italy? What's their hope of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 after failing yet again to get a win against Northern Ireland?

The European Champion will be taking a cruel and very dangerous route to be in Qatar 2022. Roberto Mancini's men failed to get the maximum three points against Northern Ireland while Switzerland got a win against Bulgaria to top Group C.

The Swiss have now qualified for next year's FIFA World Cup in Qatar with 18 points, leading European Champion with two points and avoiding a play-off.

The Italian team have worn off after their outstanding performance in the Euro 2020. This has cost them the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup and join the ten other European teams that have secured their tickets. They only had two wins, one loss and four draws in their last seven matches which shows that they have dropped in form and could not maintain their winning form after the Euro. It would be a shock if the European Champion could not make it to the FIFA World Cup next year.
