They were humiliated by Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of 2019/2020 by eight goals to two. Last season they were eliminated by PSG on 5-2 aggregate. In the last six years they have reached the semi final only once.

With the departure of the greatest player in Club history, Lionel Messi this season has been messy for the club. They've played two games and are at the bottom of the table with zero points.

Should they fail to win their next two matches, they won't be able to proceed to the next level and that's not so good for a club that's in a deep financial crisis.

The club will loose around £14.3m, should they fail to proceed to the next level of the competition. That money includes the €9.6m (£8.1m) on offer for reaching the last-16, and a further €10.6m (£8.6m) available for a last eight spot. Entering the Europa League would see them miss out on €17m (£14.3m) in total.
