FC Barcelona has been searching during the last years a player who could replace Andrés Iniesta. The Spanish midfielder was a top player on his days and one of those who helped Lionel Messi felt comfortable both inside and outside the field. But, after an era he left to play at Japan during his last years of his career.

Barça worked hard to find him a replacement, and they finally decide to make a huge effort to sign Frenkie de Jong from Ajax. Everyone assured that the Dutch midfielder could perfectly replace Iniesta in a couple of years and said that he had conditions enough to be a pro player.

But after more than a year from his signing, many fans start to think that paying almost $100 million for de Jong was a terrible decision. The 23 years old talent played 56 matches since his arrival, scoring just two goals and giving five assists. At Ajax, he gave almost three times more assists, with just 33 matches more played.

De Jong was formed at Willmen, then moved to Ajax for $11 million and finally arrived to Barcelona. As the club is facing a tremendous financial situation, after signings as the one of Antoine Griezmann or Ousmane Dembélé, he is also pointed as one of the responsible for not performing as expected.
