Bad money management can result in a disaster for anybody. Not even the millionaire soccer players are safe from its consequences. It turns out that money that seemed endless was not so. Today, a player who once was a promising star and even shared the locker room with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid declared bankruptcy.

From now on, a trustee designed by a court will make all the decisions about the little money that he, at 33 years old, has left. The spotlight hasn’t over him for many years and won a reputation of irresponsible by his former coaches, and not even on these days, at the time he is playing for an amateur side, he is able to find peace.

The economically damaged player is Royston Drenthe. A Dutch judge ruled he was incapable to manage his own finances after his huge spendings. He even got to earn 3 million euros in 2009. But he loved to spend money. In his autobiography, Drenthe himself declared that he never missed a party or a poker tournament.

Drenthe was willing to earn money in alternative ways to soccer. Into his failed investments, he spent a lot on his own invention: a heating cup but for hot dogs, that went unsold. He tried success as a rapper, as owner of a gym and lately, as an actor, but nothing went successfully.
