Jonathan Borja became a Cruz Azul player in January 2020 and arrived from CD El Nacional from Ecuador. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder came to Liga MX on loan for one year. This is the first international experience and it was very far from fulfilling the expectations that it generated when arriving at Mexican soccer.
The Ecuadorian attacker played only 19 minutes in the season in three matches, always coming from the bench.Everything seems to indicates that these will be the final numbers of his tenure as a Cruz Azul player since the coach Robert Siboldi has relegated him and sent him to train with the U20.
Siboldi said that he only wants to have on his squad players committed to his football project and Borja doesn't meet those requirements. In a training session last week, Jonathan Borja trained without enthusiasm and his teammates reproached him for his lack of attitude, to which the Ecuadorian replied that he no longer cared what they said about him because at the end of the year he is leaving the club. Those were the words that decided Siboldi to remove him from the team.
This weekend Cruz Azul faces Rayados de Monterrey and Jonathan Borja is called up to play for the U20 but decided to keep doing things wrong. He wanted to travel by plane, when the U20 always travels by bus and also he was tested positive for Covid-19 in a place not stunned by either the club or the Liga MX. Due to the cost of his loan and the low productivity he has had, the fans believe that he is one of the worst reinforcements of the team. The 12-month loan cost Cruz Azul $ 270,000 dollars to play for just 19 minutes.
