England vs Hungary: will a win qualify England for the 2022 World Cup?

The German national team became the first country to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022 after beating North Macedonia 4-0 yesterday and it became mathematically impossible to catch up with them in the group. England have the possibility of qualifying tonight.

England are ahead in their group with a four point lead with three games left. They will qualify tonight if they beat Hungary and the match between Poland and Albania ends in a draw, but if the match ends in victory for either of the countries, England will need one more win.

The Three Lions are top of Group I with 19 points and will qualify directly from the group to the World Cup with two wins from their remaining three matches. Poland, Albania and Hungary all still have a chance to qualify for the play-off spots to have a hope of qualifying.

The two bottom countries in the group San Marino and Andorra can not qualify for the World Cup even if they win their remaining matches. England were beaten in the final of the Euro 2020 by Italy and remain one of the favourites for the 2022 World Cup.
