FC Barcelona's financial struggles this summer has been well stated. The Spanish club are in debts of over €1bn have been slammed with a salary cap, and have had to sell or put up numerous first-team players for sale. So far, they have also not been able to register new signings Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay.

One of the probable ways to solve this financial crisis is to move on some of the highest earners from the club. Preferably, get some transfer money from such deals also. However, they have met disappointment on that front as two of their big earners; Phillips Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann, have been reported to stay at the Camp Nou for the next season. We will look at the top 5 highest earners that could be moved on, excluding Lionel Messi of course, who is intransferable.

Antoine Griezmann leads this list with a weekly wage of €649,040, making up €35.8m a year. Phillips Coutinho follows with €24.5m a year at €470,960 a week. Bosnian midfielder, Miralem Pjanic is the 4th highest earner at Barcelona with a weekly wage of €314,360 amounting to €16.34m a year. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba round off the top with €314,360 & €245,920 weekly (€16.34m & €12.78m annual) in wages.

These figures are some way behind Lionel Messi's reported wages that is about €1,160,000m a week and €60,320,000m a year.  However, Messi has reportedly taken up to a 50% reduction in his salaries and it is expected that other players would follow suit.

In any case, it would be a mountain to climb for FC Barcelona to retain these players even at half-salary. With majority of the top-5 earners either old or dispensable, Barcelona would jump at any chance to move on the players this summer.
