Lionel Messi was paid 71 million euros at Barcelona. Joan Laporta had managed to convince the striker to drastically reduce his salary by 50%. But the Argentine striker will make his debut today in Paris. Messi's departure relieved Barcelona's accounts, which will try to improve its economic and sporting situation.

Barcelona ended last season with an income of 855 million, far from the more than 1000 million expected and despite the salary reduction agreed with the soccer staff, the losses have been in the millions.

The absence of the public this season does not help the recovery of income. Without fans at the Camp Nou, Barça is working on new cuts. The club has already begun the process of lowering the salaries of employees and professional athletes, although it remains to be seen what solution will be adopted. Last season the salary cost of the first team was 387.5 million euros. And the idea was to lower it to around 300 million.

Barcelona's 'post Messi' salaries

Barcelona's salary scale is now led by Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman is now the highest paid with a salary of approximately 21 million euros net per season. After the Macon would appear Philippe Coutinho, who charges approximately 12 'kilos' per year. After the Brazilian, who does not count, but for whom there are no offers, would come Sergio Busquets, with about 11 million, one more than Gerard Piqué, who earns just over 10. Jordi Alba and Ousmane Dembélé are at the same level as the central and also pocket just over 10 million per season.

Reportedly, after his latest extension Marc-André ter Stegen is next on the list at 9 million per year. Frenkie de Jong is next in line at around 8 million per year and Sergi Roberto would earn about the same. Samuel Umtiti and Miralem Pjanic, in theory, are after the Dutchman at around 7.

Memphis Depay and Kun Agüero would have signed this summer a salary of between 6 and 7 million, although no one has confirmed it. It is said that both accepted a low salary understanding the delicate situation of Barcelona, so they could be closer to earn 6 than 7. On the other hand, Eric Garcia and Sergiño Dest would be right next with about 6 and then come the Clément Lenglet, Emerson Royal, Martin Braithwaite or Neto Murara, with just over 5.
