The departure of Lionel Messi from Barcelona not only leaves the fans without their idol and the team without its top star, but it will also generate a steep drop in income for the club. Although it is true that the reason why the leadership and the player could not sign a new contract is purely economic, it is also true that in the long term their separation will end up bringing more problems than solutions. At least that's what Brand Finance estimated.

The renowned consulting firm published a report a few months ago in which it ranked Real Madrid as the most valuable club on the planet with an estimated value of 1,276 million euros (USD 1,497 million), followed by Barcelona, with 1,266 million euros (USD 1,485 millions). The podium was closed by Manchester United with 1.13 billion euros (USD 1.326 million). But now, the position of the Catalan team trembles at the departure of the 34-year-old gunner.

Is that, according to the site explains "the value of the brand is based on the proportion of income attributable to the brand", so "it is expected that the departure of Messi will have direct negative effects on future income from sponsorship, merchandise sales and income from Barcelona's (La Liga) days”.

In this context, he estimated that the value of the club could plummet by at least 11%, that is, about 137 million euros (USD 160.8 million). These would come mainly from a fall in the Barça club's commercial income, which would be reduced by 77 million euros (USDD 90.37 million), and from the sales of shirts and other marketing products, with which it would stop entering 43 million euros (USD 50.47 million). The third concept by which Barcelona would lose money would be in the revenue per match day and the results on the pitch, with a fall of 17 million euros (USD 19.95 million).
