The holidays will be even more enjoyable for Lionel Messi and even for the Barça fans themselves. After several weeks of uncertainty, despite the fact that the Argentine had shown his intention to continue at FC Barcelona, the culé club and the Rosario reached a total agreement to extend their relationship, and practically ensure Leo until the end of his career.

According to information provided by the Catalan newspaper ‘Sport’, the agreement between Messi and Barcelona is complete. The new contract will legally bind both parties for five more seasons. That is, until 2026. "Now all that remains is for President Joan Laporta to reduce the salary mass of the staff so that the captain can sign his new contract," said the aforementioned source.

Negotiations, ‘Sport’ points out, have been intense between Laporta and the CEO of the club Ferran Reverter, with Leo's father and agent, Jorge Messi. The main issue that remained to be resolved was the salary reduction, to which Messi finally accepted the offer: to reduce it by 50% due to the delicate financial situation that Barça is going through.

Precisely, the president of the Barça club is on the order of continuing to lower the salary mass even further so as not only to be able to specify the ‘re-signing’ of Leo, but also to be able to register other signings such as Depay or Agüero.
