The history behind Chelsea's "Blue is the Colour" theme song

Chelsea is one of the most popular clubs in the English Premier League and around the world. With thousands of fans in the United Kingdom and millions more across the globe, there is a huge following for the London-based club. Apart from its jerseys, unique blue colour and popularity of its players, one other thing that's popular about the club is its theme song. 

The Chelsea theme song is "Blue is the colour" and it is mostly played before every match at Chelsea's home stadium of Stamford Bridge and also sometimes after a win on the same grounds. The fans sing with gusto and it is one of the most iconic fan moments. As expected, after their UEFA Champions League victory last season, the "Blue is the colour" theme song rend the air. 

The History of Chelsea theme song "Blue is the Colour"

The popular theme song for the Blues was first composed and performed by the Chelsea squad in 1972. The theme song was performed ahead of the League Cup final against Stoke City. Chelsea would go on to lose the final but the song became popular and has been adopted as the official theme song of Chelsea ever since.

Interestingly, there is another Chelsea theme song that was composed for the FA Cup. Chelsea is one of the most successful clubs in FA Cup history and they debuted the "No one can stop us now" theme song for the FA Cup in 1994. The "No one can stop us now" theme song was written by Barry Upton and  Tony Hiller. It was performed by the Chelsea squad and produced under the BMG record label in England.
