EA Sports general manager two weeks ago announced that there could be changes in the branding of the game starting after the release of FIFA 23 due to some contractual disagreements with FIFA but more details have now emerged on the details of the disagreement.

“As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.” the general manager said.

FIFA wants a better deal with EA Sports if it will renew the deal in the long term and the Times is reporting that FIFA wants a four year World Cup cycle deal that will “increase its payout from the series to more than $1 billion for each four-year World Cup cycle.”

There is also disagreement over the extent of the use of the FIFA name. FIFA wants it for just the game but EA Sports wants to use it for NFTs and also eSports leading FIFA to demand for more payout before an agreement is reached for the new World Cup year game.
