FC Barcelona is going through bad times. Not only Lionel Messi has been wanting to leave the Cules, there is also a big economic crisis that hit the club since the pandemic appeared. The world crisis affected everybody, but this institution suffered from it even worse with its mismanagements.
And, without intention, Lionel Messi did something that left the accounts of the club with less money. He did not expect to make an impact on that, but it happened anyway. And that has to do with the sponsorship deals, that were affected when the Argentinian tried to leave because of his big reputation.
In the middle of the rumours about the burofax last summer, Rakuten made a cut in the deal with FC Barcelona, that went from 55 million euros per year to 30. Cinto Ajram, in charge of the sponsorships of the club back then, told that reduction was a consequence of Messi's attempt to leave.
When the Japanese company started its business relationship with the Cules, Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar were at the club, making of the institution a great source of marketing. With two of them left, and the other trying to move, the source of reputation was not there anymore, and hence the reduction.
