The season for Barcelona's over, but the movement within the club continues. These are hours of arduous efforts for the Barça leadership led by its president Joan Laporta, whose priorities include defining who will be the coach of the first team for the 2021/2022 exercise. Ronald Koeman expressed his intention to continue in office, although some versions see him down on the Dutchman. However, should the club decide to terminate his contract, he will have to shell out a fortune.

Koeman was hired by the previous leadership and his relationship ends in June 2022. According to the Catalan media Sport, to the 7.2 million euros per year (8.7 million dollars) he signed when he arrived at Barça, we must add a penalty clause contained in the contract, for a sum of 5.8 million euros (7 million dollars). Considering these numbers, a total of 13 million euros (almost 16 million dollars), the Barcelona leadership must analyze a lot if it finally decides to do without his services.

The Dutchman knows that his continuity is not assured. This Tuesday it was learned that Laporta would have asked the coach to wait 15 more days so that he could define his future, according to the Què T’hi Jugues program of Cadena SER. The club president negotiates with him, but also with other coaches.

According to reports from Spain, this request was complied with by the coach although he did not take it in the best way since he understands that he would only continue as a second option.

Josep Guardiola, the great candidate in Barcelona

Among the first possibilities that Laporta analyzes is to repatriate Pep Guardiola, who renewed in November 2020 with Manchester City until 2023. The coach seems to be very comfortable in the English club that thanks to his leadership reached his first Champions League final that It will be this Saturday against Chelsea. Although seeing him again directing the culé team seems very difficult.
