After many twists and turns and endless doubts, Ronald Koeman will continue to be Barcelona's manager for next season. President Joan Laporta gave a press conference in which he confirmed that the Dutchman will continue to be the coach, despite the fact that an attempt was made to hire another coach but none of those wanted gave a positive response.
"After this period of reflection that we have had with Ronald Koeman, Vice President Albert Yuste and I, I would like to announce that we have agreed that we will continue this current contract," Laporta reported at a press conference. And he immediately added: "We are very satisfied because the talks have borne fruit and there is a unity of opinion regarding the steps we must take next season."
The 58-year-old technical director had signed a bond in August 2020 that kept him in Catalonia until June 2022. But its continuity had been tied to the decision of the new board, since Koeman had been hired by former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who ended up resigning from office two months after that decision.
As reported by the Catalan media Sport, Ronald had to accept a lower salary than he had agreed to when he arrived at the club but with the option of increasing the figures if he wins titles. This method is being applied by the new leadership with the different reinforcements that arrived at the club, but also with the stars that are on the staff, according to the delicate financial situation in which the institution finds itself.
Mundo Deportivo assured that the DT gave the go-ahead for the arrivals of Sergio Agüero, Eric García and Emerson Royal, although he insists with the signings of Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay, two of his priorities from the previous market and that they could arrive with the pass in his power like Kun and García.
