Who was the best Brazilian player of all time? It is hard to assure, even though many would answer Pele and that may be the most voted option, as the attacker is not only considered one of the best ones in his country but also in the world, compared to Diego Armando Maradona, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

But when looking at the list of the most expensive Brazilian players involved in transfers, there are many legends left out. Pele is one of them, as he only played for Santos FC, until he left on 1975, at the end of his career, and joined New York Cosmos, club in which he played two years before retirement.

The list of the most expensive Brazilian players ever starts with Neymar. The attacker left FC Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain for $225 million, being the most expensive transfer ever. The one from Santos to Barça was completed for $90 million, setting the first historical record.

No. 2 in the list is Vinicius Junior, the wonderkid who was formed at Flamengo and left for Real Madrid in 2017 for $45 million. Lucas Moura passed from Sao Paulo to PSG for $40 million in 2013 and completes the podium. Surprisingly, we won’t find idols as Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, Romario or Eusebio, as soccer on those times moved less money than what it does nowadays.
