The salaries of the players came to light and, strikingly, the Portuguese didn't lead at any time.

Can you imagine Cristiano Ronaldo or Thierry Henry not being the top paid players during their brilliant Premier League seasons? Yes, just like he read it. Although it sounds extremely strange, neither the Portuguese nor the French were the highest paid players during their time in the British competition. This was confirmed due to the publication of the contracts of the professionals from the moment of the creation of the competition until last year.

Cristiano Ronaldo defended the Red Devils colors from mid-2003 to mid-2009. Henry, meanwhile, was with the Gunners from June 1999 to the same month of 2007 and then one more season, 2011-2012. And if you go through the list of players who won more than them, it is really unusual.

Roy Keane, one of Manchester United's strongholds that won everything at the end of the last century, is the player who earned the most money weekly. The salary for the Irishman was 52,000 the first two years (1999 to 2001) and 90,000 the other two. He was followed by an Argentine and it is Hernán Crespo who, during his time at Chelsea, topped the table in 2003/2004 with 94,000.

Two pillars of the English midfield of that time could not be left out, such as Frank Lampard, from Chelsea (2004/2005), with 98,000 and Steven Gerrard, player from Liverpool (2005/2006), with 100,000. Two other Chelsea exponents joined, the Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko (2006/2007), with 118,000 and another English, John Terry (2007/2008), with 135,000. And the Brazilian Robinho closed the first decade of the new millennium with 160,000 when he was at Manchester City.
